An easy and fun game for students just dipping their toes into world languages! An easy and fun game for students just dipping their toes into world languages! "Orient Express" gives students the chance to play with and compare words from four popular languages -- Spanish, French, German and Chinese. A great addition to an exploratory curriculum, or -- like all Squid For Brains card games -- the self-correcting mechanism makes this a fabulous no-work sub plan.

Based on the evergreen game of War (as played with a standard deck of playing cards), "Orient Express" has students comparing words and phrases instead of numbers. Play one set of colored words to limit vocabulary, or play all at once to make gameplay the most strategic. But there's a twist: students must know the meaning of the word or phrase to take the trick when they win a "war". If a student cannot state this, the opponent(s) may steal by stating the correct meaning.
